I had intended to test the back squat this week anyway, but I though this one would be fun to do the CrossFit Total. Here’s how it works:
A. 1 rep max back squat.
B. 1 rep max press.
C. 1 rep max deadlift.
Add up your max lifts in pounds from all three, and this is your score. Here are some words from Mark Rippetoe on the CF Total. He has some good notes about warming up for the lifts as well.

Should be loads of fun! And I love Rip – good article!
oh boy – sounds like a gooder! i especially liked the “precautions” in the article, hit the spot…a VERY good reminder for me!!
This morning was great!! Was lovely meeting another Tiffany!!

B. 65#, a 5# PR since July
C. This one really makes me happy!!!! I have not once done a 1RM DL, did a 5 RM way back at 120#, today i did 165# WHOOP, WHOOP!!!

I really enjoyed this workout!
I am really struggling with back squat form. 115#.
It’s hard not to get my knees involved in the press. 72.5#.
Love dead lifts! PR’ed at 165#.
Colleen, I got my knees involved on the press too! Samers!! Too bad that’s not a good thing – bahahahaha!!
I think I speak for most people when I say how much fun this wod was! I definitely was pushed hard today by Colin and set some new PR’s.
A: 175# (15# PR)
B: 90#
C: 235 (10#PR)
Hard work pays off! Thanks for all the great training and tips from all coaches that have gotten me to this point. This time last year I thought lifting a 45# bar was heavy…
You are welcome! I wouldn’t have told you to add weight if I didn’t think you could manage it.
Loved today’s wod. I hot 3 PR’s whoop whoop.
A) 105#, finally got into the triple digits, so pumped about that.
B) 65#
C) 155#
So this is my first post!
This was my 3rd work out and I loved it today! Just plain awesomeness!
A) 175 (100PR)
B) 80 -Never done them before so I would say it’s a PR I guess.
C) 205 (140PR)
I just wish I had more time. I think I could have gone higher with my Deadlift. Next time!
A) 220#, 5#PR
B) 100#, matched a PR I haven’t been able to touch in over a year.
C) 240#, 5#PR
CF Total 560
Awesome job everyone – lots of PRs today and people lifting heavier than I bet they could have ever imagined.
A) 125# same as previous PR
B) 72.5# haven’t done a 1RM for this so i guess its a PR
C) 170# also haven’t done a 1RM for this either, so another PR!!! 🙂
Even though it wasn’t much of a cardiovascular workout, i did get some good sweating in there (mostly during the warm up) thanks to the heat and no A/C.
Not every workout needs to be cardiovascular, just for the record. http://whole9life.com/2009/12/beware-the-lure-of-the-sexy-met-con/. Sometimes you just need to get stronger.
I’m not complaining that there wasn’t or that there should be everytime lol, i’m just stating that fact of how much sweat there was without that cause of the heat.
And, stronger is always good. I like strong! 🙂
Great work everyone! This was a fun one for me too.
A. 230#, a 5# PR. Huge. I haven’t gone over 215 in almost a year.
B. 100#, not a PR but not bad either. I find it’s especially tough to press after the max squat.
C. 305#. Tied my relatively recent PR. Very pleased.
For a grand total of 635, a 40# improvement over last time I did this in Jan. 2012.
