𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴? Good question.
The answer, like many things related to exercise and nutrition, is “it depends”.
It depends on:
– 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁.
This may seem counterintuitive, but people with LESS training experience may see and feel results sooner, just because going from no physical activity to some physical activity is a bigger leap than from “somewhat active” to “more active”.
BUT… it may also take longer to build a foundation of good movement technique, and to get to the point where you can add some intensity into your workouts.
– 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆.
More exposure to new movements and workouts mean quicker progress, but the consistency is where it’s at. Even a mediocre workout consistently done 3x/week will beat out a fantastic workout done only 1x/week.
– 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.
How much food you eat does matter, but eating simple, minimally-processed foods will go a long way towards determining your body composition. It’s pretty hard to overeat vegetables!
– 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀.
Yes, we all have differing levels of athleticism and strength, but trust me… the vast majority of us have lots of things we can improve on before we hit any kind of genetic limit. The odds are pretty good that you can get way stronger and fitter than you are now.
If you’re new to working out, you’ll start to notice changes in how you feel physically and mentally within a few weeks. Movements will start to get easier. Your mood and energy levels will improve.
Within a couple of months, you’ll start to feel stronger, and your cardio will improve. You may start noticing changes to your body composition. Heck, you may even start to look forward to your workouts…!
3+ months – Regular exercise will feel more like a habit and less like a chore. You’ll find you can push harder in your workouts, and everyday activities will feel easier.
And that’s just the beginning. Changing your lifestyle takes time and consistent hard work… but it’s worth it. 💪
